Persian Pundits and Siamese Sages
A mathematically mischievious cat, Mephistopheles,
Could square the hypoteneuse and meiow hypotheses
About the world's origin in 3 seconds round or flat
While Socrates, no simple syllogist, was customarily curious
How dogs could yap and yip in yelps sufficiently furious
To appall any meditatively mannerly, self respecting cat.
***************************************
Now, Socrates was a wise old cat,
Could elude prying humans, out-think any rat;
He'd paw his whiskers like a white moustache,
Meiow his every doubt in a high what or how.
But Ceasar, however much he'd try to fool us,
Was a lounging Tom, not conquering Julius;
Though, when dreaming of mouse-lands in a milk sea,
He paraded, tail bannerlike and ears high
And ruled his rodent realm with gourmet glee
***************************************
My cats, indeed, are quite eclectic:
One's fur flies up, sparked electric;
He looms luminous, tall and large,
Bloated by electric charge.
One's hair falls fast, limp and flat;
He cringes, small, by the electric cat.
One lunges at imagined moths,
Chases cords and swinging cloths,
Carols coloratura when he's curious,
Caterwails when he frowns furious,
While tuxedoed Tom, though electrified,
Merely muses mute and dignified.

The Write Cat
My Tom's a bright and big boy -
He does it to annoy.
When he's lonely and he's
Ignored, he stomps upon the keys.
Should I teach my pet the alphabet
Hope he pats out witty prose?
Teach him edition and derision,
Hope each kitty ditty shows
He can add up what he knows?
Or will Cat, nipped by the rage
To peck pointless periods on a page,
Type no tyke teasers or hypotheses,
But pat out parades of parentheses?
Teach his protegee to nap upon the spacer
Just because he's cat-curious,
Add the nanoseconds until I'm furious
Enough to scream and chase her?
Teach kit to leap and race her
Claws without pause or erasures
Until white's stippled with a luxurious
Excess of "@g$*&mF09+!"ers?

Keyboard Kitty
My cat once preferred the mouse.
Now he prefers the keys;
Leaps and lands and like a souse
Types a tippler's nonsense pleas.
Kitty's a computer pet
Who ogles at the internet.
Though of the wired generation
With wild-child couger concentration,
She'll take lap and nap over browsing
And virtual carousing.

Are purrs music or monotonous?
The worldy cats have all gotten us
To meet this murmerer as a chum.
But for some, too "Humbug" and humdrum,
Purrs rumble like an ancient motor's hum.
I fall asleep with cats and fear
Waking with a mower groaning in my ear.
